Diddy to Launch His Own Music-Themed Cable Network

Sean “Diddy” Combs is expanding his entertainment empire. The Bad Boy mogul is planning to launch a music-themed cable network at the end of the year, according to several sources.

Broadcasting & Cable reports that Diddy’s new channel will be called Revolt and is aiming to go live on 12/12/12.

Former MTV programming chief Andy Schuon is reportedly involved with the well-funded venture. He previously headed a music channel called International Music Feed (IMF).

Diddy has been in talks with Comcast and Time Warner Cable to distribute Revolt, which is being described as a music and music news channel with an urban skew. One source likened it to the old days of MTV, but catered to an African-American audience.

Jay-Z was back to popping bottles of Ace of Spades on Wednesday night (Jan. 18)–out for his first public appearance since becoming a father at the grand reopening of his 40/40 nightclub in New York City.A host of celebrities including: Ashanti, Wale, Swizz Beatz, Rico Love, ?uestlove, Adrienne Bailon, Grandmaster Flash, Selita Ebanks, Irv Gotti, and Fabolous were among the VIP guests who came out to celebrate with Mr. Carter.

Even billionaire Warren Buffett, who shared the cover of Forbes with the hip-hop mogul, was seen throwing up the Roc. But despite rumors of an appearance, new mom Beyoncé was a no-show, opting to stay at home with their newborn daughter while her husband made the press rounds and greeted well-wishers.

The sports club underwent a multi-million dollar renovation that includes four 165-inch video screens.

Megaupload Gets Shut Down

Megaupload’s problems continue to mount. Now, the site run by Swizz Beatz has been shut down.

The Department of Justice said that this is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States. The news broke a day after major websites like Wikipedia and Google protested against the U.S. House of Representatives’ Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, and the Senate’s similar Protect IP act.

On Thursday (January 19), the federal government took the action against Megaupload.com, and also arrested several members of the company, hitting them with multiple racketeering and copyright infringement charges, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Department of Justice. The Associated Press reported that Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom (also known as Kim Schmitz) was arrested Thursday in New Zealand along with three others.

Swizz Beatz, Megaupload’s CEO, was not charged in the indictment, and as of now, it is unclear how the producer/rapper’s involvement with the company will play into the case.

A federal indictment alleges that the site, which allows users to transfer large files, has generated more than $175 million in criminal proceed and costs copyright-holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated movies, albums and other materials.
